Tommy Flanagan/Overseas(Prestige, 1958)
What I like about Flanagan is that the rolling piano sound never becomes frivolous.
Although his playing style is directly descended from Bud Powell, his piano flows as smoothly as a well-oiled engine.
There is no pretense about his piano at all.
Elvin Jones' drums act as spices.
I like how Tommy parries Elvin's light drumming as if nothing happened.
It's an album that makes me excited just listening to it.
